Classic French Toast

Classic French Toast

Classic French toast served with a freshly made vanilla bean whipped cream. So GOOD! I typically prefer pancakes or waffles, but occasionally I will opt for some good old-fashioned French toast. Thick slices of bread that are lightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with notes of vanilla and cinnamon. Delicious. Can’t forget the syrup and whipped cream to give it a little extra something!

On a side note, my husband does not like French toast, but the supportive guy he is, he tried it for me. Ended up eating more than one slice and said I may have changed his mind! This really made my day! As always, I love to hear your thoughts and I hope you enjoy my take on classic French toast!

Classic French Toast with Vanilla Bean Whipped Cream

Classic French Toast with Vanilla Bean Whipped Cream
  • 8 Slices of Brioche Bread (Or any thick sliced bread.)
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup Milk
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tsp Ground Cinnamon (Extra to sprinkle on top, optional.)
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 pinch Kosher Salt (Regular Salt works also.)
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • Optional Topping Maple Syrup and Fresh Fruit.
  • Vanilla Bean Whipped Cream (Optional)
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 2 1/2 tbsp Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 pinch Vanilla Bean Powder
Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well. Add milk. Whisk until smooth. Transfer egg batter to a shallow dish.
  2. Optional step. To make the whipped cream, place the cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and vanilla bean powder in a large mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, whisk until soft peaks form. Should take 2-3 minutes. Set aside in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  3. Heat the butter in a large skillet on medium high heat. While the butter is melting, place 1-2 slices on bread in the batter at a time. Let sit 30-60 seconds, flip and sit another 30-60 seconds in the batter. You want the bread to be soaked through but not soggy.
  4. Place the bread in the hot skillet. Cook on each side for 2-3 minutes, until golden brown on each side. Continue steps three and four until each slice of bread has been cooked.
  5. Serve with whipped cream (optional) and syrup. Optional, add a light dash of cinnamon on top. Simply enjoy!
