Brown Butter Chocolate Glazed Baked Donuts

Brown Butter Chocolate Glazed Donut

Who loves a good chocolate glazed donut!? Typically, I prefer a fried donut, but I caved and finally purchased a silicone donut pan mold from Target. Mainly, because I wanted to try a semi-healthier version of a donut, the oven baked donut instead of a fried donut. Also known as a cake donut. They turned out so GOOD! Taste like a cupcake, but they are more fun because they are in the shape of a donut. The brown butter helped make these donuts even more moist and flavorful. Plus, chocolate frosting, can’t go wrong there!

As per usual, I had my family taste test my first oven baked donut creation. They loved them! My daughter has been requesting a donut daily since I made them. I hope you and your loved ones enjoy making and eating these donuts as much as my family and I did. As always, we love to hear your thoughts!

Brown Butter Chocolate Glazed Baked Donuts

Brown Butter Chocolate Glazed Baked Donuts
    Donut
  • 2 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Canola Oil (Fresh is better but pre grated or powdered works too!)
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 3 tbsp Butter (non-salted)
  • Sprinkles (Optional Topping)
  • Chocolate Glaze
  • 1/4 cup Half & Half (Or Milk – have extra on hand if you need to thin out the glaze a little.)
  • 1-1 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar (Start with 1 cup and keep ¼ cup on reserve if needed.)
  • 1/3 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 pinch Salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425. I used a silicone donut pan (placed on top of a baking sheet) and spray 2 donut pans with non-stick spray. If using a metal donut pan, spray 2 pans with non-stick spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Whisk. Set aside.
  3. Take a small saucepan and over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Continuously whisk, it should become foamy, that is fine. Once the foam has decreased a little and it starts to turn slightly brown, remove from heat.
  4. Using a stand mixer bowl or large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs (use a stand mixer whisk attachment or a hand mixer), brown sugar, sugar, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla together. Add the browned butter, mix until smooth.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the sugar mixture. Mix until smooth.
  6. Once the batter is smooth, add to a piping bag and pipe into the donut mold. Or simply spoon the batter into the donut mold, whatever you prefer. Fill to a little below the top of the mold.
  7. Place in the oven at 425 degrees and bake for 7-9 minutes. Donuts will have a little bit of a gooey center. Let cool in the donut pan for at least 5 minutes before removing and placing on a cooling rack. Let them fully cool before adding the glaze.
  8. While the donuts are cooling, make the glaze. In a mixing bowl add the milk, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until smooth. Add a tsp of milk if to thick or a 1 tbsp of powdered sugar at a time if needed to thicken. You want the glaze to be a little thick.
  9. Once the donuts have cooled and the glaze it ready, dip one side of the donuts into the glaze. Top with sprinkles (optional). The glaze takes a couple of hours to fully set but feel free to eat right away! Simply enjoy!
