Pigs in a Blanket is such a fun, traditional, yet easy appetizer to make and serve. Not only are they great for kids, eating pigs in a blanket as an adult is fun too! These are a great go to appetizer/party snack when you need to make something quick or need something to serve at any event. Don’t forget to serve these delicious appetizers at parties, game days, play dates, holidays, etc.

Instead of the traditional way to make pigs in a blanket, using crescent rolls, I decided to use puff pastry. Also, while I am changing up this traditional fun snack/appetizer, why not add some cheese while we’re at it! Check out the recipe below and as always, I love to hear your thoughts!

Puff Pastry Pigs in a Blanket

Puff Pastry Pigs in a Blanket

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Place parchment paper on a large baking sheet, set aside.
  2. Cut up the gruyere cheese into thin slices, next cut each slice into third’s. (There should be one thin cube of cheese per pig in a blanket)
  3. Take a puff pastry sheet and cut into 12 even strips, 24 strips total.
  4. Place a piece of cheese and place on top of a strip of puff pastry. Next, place a lil smokie on top of the piece of cheese. Roll the puff pastry strip around the lil smokie, pinching the dough so it stays together. Lay on top of the parchment paper. Repeat until each lil smokie is wrapped. There should be about 24 pigs in a blanket.
  5. Whisk the egg and black pepper together. Lightly brush the tops of the puff pastry with the egg wash. Lightly sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning (optional step- I did some with and some without the seasoning).
  6. Place in oven for 20 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes. Serve and simply enjoy!
